Is It Safe to Get a Brazilian Wax During Pregnancy?

Pregnant women often have questions and concerns regarding the safety of certain spa treatments. At the same time, pregnant moms want the absolute best for their unborn babies.  Pregnant women would hate to expose their unborn baby to anything harmful in utero.

Thanks to your hormones, your hair is probably growing at a much faster rate now, which means you might find yourself more fixated on hair removal than ever before. It is no wonder that many pregnant women feel the desperate need to remove hair around their pubic area.  And, luckily, for pregnant women who can’t stand hair “down there,” there is good news.

bnwax: Experts agree that Brazilian hair waxing, or bikini waxes, are not harmful to moms or their babies!

According to Healthline, Getting waxed during pregnancy is generally considered safe. But there are some precautions you should be aware of, whether you’re waxing at home or going to a spa or salon.

Tip: Make sure to see an experienced and licensed Esthetician. Ask about their work history and training.

Check to see that the facility is clean and does not reuse wax or the strips between clients. Doing so could put you at risk for bacterial infections. Reusing applicators or “double-dipping” them back into the wax also increases your risk of infection.

When is Waxing while pregnant definitely off-limits?

Many OB/GYNs discourage women from getting a bikini or Brazilian wax close to their baby’s due date. During delivery, many women tear vaginally and need stitches. Any hair waxing close to delivery can mean more pain “down there” overall.  It’s better to forego any kind of vaginal-area waxing within the last month of pregnancy.
